The Workshop

IFLA hosted a workshop at BOBCATSSS with the theme  “Global Trends, Local Voices: Libraries responding to the IFLA Trend Report,”  led by former governing board members Frédéric Blin, Director for Preservation and Heritage Collections at the National and University Library of Strasbourg and Inga Lundén, Development Strategist at Stockholm City Department of Culture.

During the workshop participants discussed issues for library services related to the Trend Report, including;

  • How libraries need to adapt as a result of new technologies
  • How libraries can support Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) and digital literacy
  • The need for libraries to consider security,  privacy and data protection legislation

The discussions also brought forward opportunities for repositioning libraries within society, by emphasising curated content and demonstrating the role of access to information in achieving sustainable development.
