BOBCATSSS Lyon 2016, a student symposium with the theme “Information Libraries Democracy” was held from 27 – 29 January 2016 in Lyon, France. Attending the event were 223 onsite participants from 25 countries including students, information specialists, professors, and professionals working in the fields of library and information science, education, and research to share experiences and discuss the future of library and information science.
IFLA hosted a workshop at BOBCATSSS with the theme “Global Trends, Local Voices: Libraries responding to the IFLA Trend Report,” led by former governing board members Frédéric Blin, Director for Preservation and Heritage Collections at the National and University Library of Strasbourg and Inga Lundén, Development Strategist at Stockholm City Department of Culture.
During the workshop participants discussed issues for library services related to the Trend Report, including;
The discussions also brought forward opportunities for repositioning libraries within society, by emphasising curated content and demonstrating the role of access to information in achieving sustainable development.
